Survival Tips for Holiday Season Haters

The Recovering Pessimist: Survival Tips for Holiday Season Haters -- Everyone isn't full of the holiday spirit. I've got some tips to help you out. | #amwriting #recoveringpessimist #optimisticpessimistThe holiday season is upon us insert groan here and with that brings an overabundance of cheer. You walk into a store and you’re bombarded with jingle bells and the same holiday songs on repeat. New holiday albums come out every year, yet somehow I hear the same handful of songs.

It’s torture.

Oh and don’t get me started on the shoppers themselves. I don’t know if they’re under pressure, but they tend to become so obsessed with sales that they forget manners and common sense. Assuming they had manners and common sense to begin with. Call me a grinch, I can handle it.

[bctt tweet=”In anticipation of the holiday season, I put together a few survival tips for those of us who just don’t want to be sucked into the matrix.”]

  • Headphones/earphones are essential when I go out in public to begin with. I don’t really want to interact too much with people. Now, imagine not wanting to interact with people AND it’s the holiday season. I promise you, drowning out the jingle bells and holiday classics will keep you sane.

Watch movies that make fun of the holidays.

Shop Online (if possible)

  • I’m a huge fan of online shopping in general. During the holiday season, I tend to shop online as more of necessity. With many stores offering a ship to store option, there’s plenty of reason to avoid the chaos in the aisles.

Photos/Videos of Elf on the Shelf being inappropriate.

Remember it’s almost over.

  • Holiday season is about two months long (if you don’t count New Year’s) but it’s a lot jammed into those 60 days. Be strong, it’ll be over soon.

These tips have served me well and I hope you they serve you well too. Tell me, what tools do you use to survive the holidays?
