The Recovering Pessimist: My Favorite Pinterest Accounts for Bloggers -- I often turn to Pinterest to answer many of my blogging-related questions. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Pinterest accounts for bloggers because people need to know how dope these accounts (and the people behind them) are. Also, I want to save you from a lot of frustration and headaches. | www.therecoveringpessimist.me #amwriting #recoveringpessimist #optimisticpessimist #blogging #bloggers #pinterestI’m a HUGE fan of Pinterest as a blogger. Many of my blogging-related questions were answered via Pinterest. That website is a hub of awesomeness. listed below on my

Anyway, I wanted to share my favorite Pinterest accounts for bloggers. All of these accounts are included on my Blogging Tips Pinterest board.

Ali Ebright (Gimme Some Oven)

I was researching how to name the images I created and used in my blog posts on Pinterest. In the search results, was Ali’s pin entitled “The One Thing You Must Do To Every Image Uploaded To Your Blog“. Talk about being a lifesaver. Not only does her Pinterest page make me hungry, but the Pinterest board for her blog Gimme Some Oven has plenty of blogging-related gems on it. Definitely worth checking out.

byRegina

My admiration for Regina is no secret (I’ve mentioned her here, here, and here). I’ve been a fan of hers for years and she’s never steered me wrong. Her Pinterest page is a treasure chest of awesomeness. My favorite boards of hers are Blog Tips Galore, Blog Tips, and For the Infopreneurs.

Olyvia

I learned about Olyvia when I ran across her “91+ Blog Posts To Make You A Better Blogger + Business Owner” blog post on Pinterest. My favorite boards on Olyvia’s Pinterest page are Olyvia.co, Blog + Website Tips, and E-book Creation.

Melyssa Griffin

Melyssa’s pins appeared on my Pinterest timeline after doing research on blogging tips. Her Pinterest page is a big resource for me, along with other bloggers and entrepreneurs. My favorite boards on Melyssa’s page include MelyssaGriffin.comBlogging + Bloggers, and Entrepreneur + Business.

I hope you find these Pinterest accounts just as useful as I do. Do you have any favorite Pinterest accounts for bloggers? Feel free to share them in the comments or contact me on social media. I’d love to hear about them.

My Favorite Blogging Tools (Part 2)

May

The Recovering Pessimist: My Favorite Blogging Tools Part 2 -- Later and Canva are included in this edition of my favorite blogging tools. | www.therecoveringpessimist.me #amwriting #recoveringpessimist #optimisticpessimistOne of my favorite things as a blogger is that I’m constantly learning something. These websites, apps, tools, etc. manage to make blogging a bit easier as time goes on. With this edition (click here for Part 1), I wanted to share things that save me time and frustration. Enjoy!

Later

I kid you not, this is one of the BEST websites/apps I’ve discovered so far this year. I got frustrated with having to manually share my blog posts to Instagram. It might not sound that annoying, but when you have a lot going on during the day, it’s very easy to forget to do it.

After several hours and Google searches, I ran across Later. It’s an app (available for Android and iOS) and a website that provides a free option for you to use. It’s really easy to use Later. I upload the photo I want to share, write a caption for it, then schedule a day/time for it to post to Instagram.

[pjc_slideshow slide_type=”later-com”]

But there’s a slight catch.

Later won’t physically share the post to Instagram for you. What Later will do is send you a reminder notification via the app to your phone. From the notification, Later automatically directs you to the Instagram app to post it. It saves me a lot of time because I can pre-write the captions/hashtags and all I need to do from there is upload it.

Even with the slight catch, Later is definitely worth checking out. If you decide to test Later out, let me know what you think. I’d love to hear about your experience.

Canva

I don’t remember how I learned about Canva, but I’m forever grateful to be in the know. Canva allows you to create graphics for all kinds of uses (e.g., social media, ebooks, business cards, etc.). Many of Canva’s elements are free (others cost $1). Canva does have an app, however, it’s only available for iPad. Bummer for my fellow Android lovers.

Posts are automatically saved (with the option to undo) & can be downloaded as images or PDFs. Pretty awesome.

[pjc_slideshow slide_type=”canva”]

I use Canva to create all the Wisdom Wednesday posts from 2014-present. I recently discovered that many use Canva to create printables. I’m determined to learn how to do this. If you use Canva to create printables, how was your experience?

Pinterest

I briefly mentioned Pinterest during Part 1, but I didn’t give it the attention it deserves. Joining Pinterest has saved me a lot of time and energy from researching blogging/writing issues.

Bravo Pinterest, bravo.

Some of my favorite Pinterest accounts include byRegina, Spruce Rd., Think Creative Collective, Melyssa Griffin, Erika Madden, and XO Sarah. I frequent these six Pinterest pages the most when I’m looking for information about business/blogging/writing.

I hope you enjoyed reading Part 2 of the My Favorite Blogging Tools series. If you have favorites that you want to share, tell me about them in the comments. I love learning about new tools that can make a little less stressful.

Until next time,

My 2015 Fall Faves

Sep

The Recovering Pessimist: My 2015 Fall Faves -- With the fall season approaching, here are a few of my faves. | www.therecoveringpessimist.me #amwriting #optimisticpessimist #recoveringpessimistFall is in full swing. Despite my allergies/sinuses being all over the place, I’m extremely excited for the next couple months of cooler weather.

1. Combat Boots

–  Cooler weather brings boots. Combat boots are my shoe of choice. Paired with some skinny jeans, a light sweater/sweatshirt, and cute boot socks, I’m in heaven.

2. Hot Chocolate

– I’m a huge dark chocolate fan! Hunkering down on the sofa wrapped up in a blanket with a hot mug of dark chocolate hot cocoa is perfection during this time of year. Hold the marshmallows though.

3. Stews/Soups/Crockpot Goodness

– Chillier air calls for heavier meals in my house, specifically stews and soups. With sunset occurring early, cooking these meals with a crockpot is mandatory. I have a ton of stew and soup recipes on my Pinterest page.

4. Taking photos of all the color changes.

– When the leaves start to change colors before they fall, I put my camera to good use. It’s the last splash of color from Mother Nature until Spring. *insert loud sigh here*

5. Jumping in leaf piles

– Once I’m done taking photos of the pretty leaves, I release my inner child and jump in piles of leaves. Don’t judge me. We all have to indulge our inner child once in a while.

6. Rainy days/nights

– Rain + cool weather = Pure Bliss. Enough said.

7. Snuggle weather

– Cool weather = Get cozy with a comfy blanket of your choice. Feel free to substitute or add your favorite snuggle buddy to that equation.

8. Apple everything!

– Most people associate this season with all pumpkin everything. I, however, obsess over apples. Fried apples, apple crumble, apple pie, apple pie smoothies, apple cider, etc.

9. Dark lipstick/glosses

– I don’t even wear makeup, but I LOVES me some dark lipstick/lip gloss. I have a dark purple in my arsenal already, but my makeup board on Pinterest has me adding a black lipstick to my shopping list.

10. All my favorite shows come back to TV!!!

– When you’re a dedicated fan of a TV show, having to wait alllll summer for its return is painful. Thankfully Scandal, Greys’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder,  and Empire have already premiered for the fall. Just waiting on The Walking Dead, American Horror Story: Hotel, and The Blacklist.

Tell me, are you looking forward to the start of fall? If yes, let me know what a few of your favorite things about fall. If no, tell me why you aren’t excited about the change in season.

Elf on the Shelf + Horror Movie Trailer = Awesomeness

Dec

I’m not big on Christmas, however, I LOVES me some Elf on the Shelf. While I love Elf on the Shelf in general, it gives me the giggles to see him/her used in a way that’s inappropriate.

When I saw this video on Pinterest, the title made me cackle. When I watched the video, I laughed to the point of tears.

Now, with further adieu, I present to you:

Back to Center: Update 1

Apr

The Recovering Pessimist: Back to Center Update 1 -- My journey to wellness begins. | www.therecoveringpessimist.me #amwriting #recoveringpessimist #optimisticpessimistIt’s been a while since I’ve posted Back to Center and I’m LONG overdue for an update. Currently, my weight ranges from 159-162. I’m pretty excited. I’m maintaining existing habits, establishing new habits, and had a few light bulb moments.

Without further adieu, let’s dive in!

Infused Water

Plain water can become a bit boring. I’ve added lemon juice to ice water for a while, but now I want to add fruit, cucumber, and fresh herbs. Pinterest has a ton of infused water recipes.

Portion Control

I had no concept of portion control. I would put huge portions on my plate AND eat all of it! Despite healthy eating habits, overeating was preventing me from shedding the pounds.

Light bulb moment.

I paid more attention not only what I was eating, but how much I was eating. I started listening to my stomach tell my brain it was full. Once I felt full, I put the cutlery down and pushed the plate away.

Hello Sexy

I brought a full length mirror so I could really track my progress. One random day, I happened to stand in the mirror and noticed that I could clearly see my waist…without having to contort my body.

*insert happy dance here*

Seeing my curves inspired me to overhaul my wardrobe. This is the first summer in a LONG time that I won’t be wearing  jeans. I’ve browsed websites for dresses, skirts, and sandals for the warm weather. Skin will be shown!!

Embrace the Kitchen

I’ve managed to bring fewer and fewer processed foods into my home. Since the weather is warmer, I eat lighter meals. Heat and heavy food is never a winner. For inspiration, I frequent Pinterest, TheKitchn, and YumSugar. I promised myself that I would freeze a lot of fruits and veggies this year so I won’t crave them in the colder months.

At this point, it’s more about maintaining my progress. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far and I want it to stay that way. As far as the next update is concerned, I won’t take so long to post it. Promise.

Oh Pinterest, how I love thee. You remind me of a virtual cork board where a hodgepodge of photos, quotes, and idea are placed.

A lot of everything can be found on Pinterest. Oh, and don’t bother telling yourself that you’re only going to on there for “a little bit”.

Lies!!

I’ve blown hours on Pinterest. Yes, hours. Then, when I finally log out of my account, I’ll see something on the homepage I want to pin, and it starts all over again.

Madness. I love it.
