    Survival Tips for Allergy/Sinus Sufferers

The cooler weather and falling leaves are awesome. For those who suffer from allergies and/or sinus issues, it’s the start of a rough season. Everything from the neck up has been in a state of panic since the first cool day we had here in Virginia.

I wanted to share some of my tips that have helped me so far so that you won’t be a frequent visitor at the doctor’s office (like I am). Also, leave a comment with your tips. I’m always up to learn something new.

    1. Use a Humidifier
My warm water humidifier is my best friend during the cold months. I add about 10 drops of peppermint essential oil to the water. The menthol is good for clearing congestion. Plus it smells lovely.

    2. Stay Hydrated
This sounds gross, but I get a lot of phlegm that just sticks to the sides of my throat. When it gets this bad, I usually have to buy Mucinex to break up the phlegm and prevent chest and sinus congestion issues.

    3. Listen to your Body
I’ve had so many upper respiratory infections. Going to the doctor and the pharmacy constantly is draining . I finally learned that my body will warn me when all is not well. That gives me time to try to treat the issue before it gets worse. Your wallet will thank you later.

    4. Rest Up
I know you hear this all the time, but you have to get a good night’s rest. Yes, I know all the fall shows are back on TV, but you need to give your body time to repair itself. When I can’t fall asleep, I drink a cup of Celestial Seasoning’s Sleepytime Sinus Soother Wellness Tea. I usually fall asleep within 10-15 minutes of drinking the tea.

    5. Medicate Wisely
If you use prescription and/or over-the-counter medication, make sure you use them correctly. In addition to local pharmacy, I use Drugs.com to check for any drug interactions.

Those are a few of my allergy/sinus survival tips. My fellow sufferers, how do you survive the colder months? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
