The Complexities of Life

Social Media & Success

The Recovering Pessimist: Social Media & "Success" -- Social media creates a false reality that one's success is overnight, when in fact, that's far from the truth. | www.therecoveringpessimist.me #amwriting #recoveringpessimist #optimisticpessimist“I would love to be in (insert name)  shoes. They have (insert material thing) , (insert material thing), and (insert material thing).”

How many times have you said that?

Social media makes it easy to look into the lives of those we admire. People post snapshots of their lives to timelines that update in real-time. You scroll through these timelines, see (what appears to be) their “instant” success, and find yourself wanting what you see.

You don’t see the notes from brainstorming sessions scattered on the floor. You don’t see the days/nights spent testing the ideas in those notes. You don’t see the moments where they considered giving up. None of that is reflected in the timelines you scroll. It’s a false reality that so many believe is the truth. With that in mind, do me a favor and look at those timelines again. Do you recognize that so much went into the success that you see?

Yes? Awesome.

Feel free to spread the word. When you know better, you do better, right?

Until next time,

MsWalton
